Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is AC4?

A: AC4 stands for the Advanced Consortium on Cooperation, Conflict, and Complexity.

Housed at the Earth Institute, AC4 is a consortium of existing programs, centers, institutes, and faculty at Columbia University and seeks to convene the many resources present within Columbia University to study complex issues related to conflict, violence, peace-building and sustainable development. In particular, AC4 focuses on improving the understanding of the interface between critical changes in physical systems and social systems, such as between climate change and social conflict.

AC4 consists of an executive committee, several staff members and a growing network of AC4-affiliated scholars, researchers, and practitioners.

Q: What is AC4 Link?

A: At AC4, we are dedicated to fostering a unique community of learning, experimentation and development for scholars, practitioners, and policy-makers working together across relevant disciplines.  In working together across relevant disciplines, AC4 believes leading-edge ideas, practices and technologies can be generated to help foster conflict resolution, violence prevention, sustainable development, and peace.

AC4 Link is a new web-based information hub that highlights all faculty, centers, and programs that conduct research and practice as well as teach activities related to conflict resolution, violence prevention, sustainable development, and peace.
